❓ “Can I Trust God?”

Wrestling With Faith When Nothing Makes Sense

Can I trust God? That’s the question that has haunted me for most of my life. Not “Does God exist?” Not “What does the Bible say?” But the deeper, more personal question: Can I actually trust God with my life?

It’s a fair question. Especially when life hasn’t exactly gone according to plan.

I’m 62 years old. A two-time cancer survivor. I speak through a prosthesis because cancer took my voice box. I walk with hip replacements. I wear hearing aids. And I have 12 years of sobriety after decades of addiction that left me homeless, broken, and convinced I was too far gone to ever recover.

I was adopted into a Methodist family, sent to a Baptist school, raised in church every Sunday. For years, I inherited beliefs without question. But then life happened — addiction, homelessness, cancer — and those inherited beliefs felt inadequate. That’s when the questions started. Hard questions. Survival questions.

🌍 Wrestling With Belief

This book is not about easy answers. It’s about wrestling with the tension between doubt and faith. It’s about asking:

  • Why is there so much suffering if God is good?
  • What about the billions of people who follow other religions?
  • How do we know what’s true and what’s just cultural conditioning?

These aren’t academic questions. They’re survival questions. When you’re sitting in a homeless shelter or facing cancer for the second time, you need more than inherited theology. You need faith that can stand up to reality.

🔥 What This Book Is Not

  • It’s not a book of easy answers.
  • It’s not written by a theologian with all the credentials.
  • It’s not designed to make you comfortable.

✝️ What This Book Is

  • Honest: Brutally honest about doubt, anger, and struggle.
  • Humble: I don’t claim to be right about everything.
  • Hopeful: Because despite everything, I’m still here. Still trusting.
  • Practical: Wrestling with real questions people ask when life gets hard.

🕊️ Who This Book Is For

This book is for the broken, the searching, the ones who’ve been told to “just have faith” but can’t. It’s for those hurt by religion, confused by inherited beliefs, or curious about other faiths. It’s for anyone who needs faith that can withstand reality — not just faith that works when life is easy.
